Coleman Crawdad on Hefner

So I got my dad's old Coleman Crawdad jon boat a couple weeks ago. I've put about 200 bucks into it so far. It has a trolling motor that pushes me along pretty good when the battery doesn't die out early on me. I took it out for its second voyage on Hefner today. This time with a much larger battery. Needless to say the little one I had before left me high and dry. I had to paddle to the ramp!

Tonight it did a little better but still croaked out on me after 2 hours. I suspect it didn't have a full charge. I still managed to catch 2 bass tonight. One at 1 lb another at 1.5 or so. Both on a topwater popper. Let's hope for some low wind tomorrow night so me and the kiddo can go for a spin on the crawdad.

Finally. Something to BLOG about.

After a big fat 0 yesterday, I was able to hang into a decent bass that weighed just a hair under 5 lbs. And at Hefner no less! The lake really seems to be producing for Chad lately (See his blog located on my links area.) Today offered up the big one, a small one, and one or two more bass and bluegill. Not many chances to fish as of late, so this was a welcomed surprise.

What happend to my lake?

A big sarcastic THANKS goes out to the yahoo who thought it would be a good idea to brag about the recent large bass caught out of Hefner. Now the lake is crawling with new people from who knows where. That's all fine and dandy, but I've noticed an influx of people with bad attitudes lately.

To those of you "too good" to say hi back to me when we pass on the water I say "Kiss my ass!" I swear this city has an overpopulation of assholes and I've ran into quite a few on ole Lake Hefner.

Maybe it's just me, but people are not near as nice as they used to be. I think I'll move my ass out to the country.

2009 gets a late start.

Yes I've been gone awhile. What can I say. I'm a bit of a fair weather fisherman. But today I had to get out regardless. Took the float tube on its first voyage on Hefner this year. Went to a spot I normally wouldn't, but ended up with a decent largemouth off the rocks on a jig.

Weather has been horrible but I hope to be able to post more exploits from OKC area lakes soon.

Hurricanes on Hefner!

It's been tough to get out to go fishing lately. If it's not the wind, it's the rain. We did manage to catch a couple fish from the damn on Hefner a couple days ago. Had some big waves from the storms brought in by the hurricane.

I caught a nice little crappie and a bluegill. Chad managed to bag a bass or two. We had to cut things a little short. It started raining in sheets! You could see where the rain started it's way from the other side of the lake. Before we knew it, we were pelted by giant drops.

It's a little tough, but we always seem to catch a couple from the damn. Just be careful on those rocks and wear good shoes!

Goodbye Stills, Hello Video!

Tonight was a good night for topwater, as I soon found out when float tubing my uncle's pond up North of Edmond, OK. My aunt said they're supposed to drain it soon! That's too bad, it's always been a great pond for quantity. While I've caught them up to 4 lbs from this lake, today it was a range of half pounders to maybe 2 lbs. at the most.

Who cares when they're busting on topwater poppers?! Not me. I'm all for the splash of topwater action. This time, I found a great way to mount my cell phone video cam to film my fishing exploits. Take a look at what I ended up with. Not bad for just testing the concept out. Look for more of these vids in the future as I do more float tubing.

Sorry for the poor audio quality. Youtube doesn't like my phone's video format after conversion.

If any of you haven't tried float tubing, look into it. It's a great way to get down at the fishes' level. You're gonna need a little bit of gear. Listed below for your convenience.

So I called a dude a chick today...

Went to the local Academy Sports to do a little shopping spree. I managed to bag a nice Abu Garcia baitcast combo along with some much needed plastics and lures.

Thought I'd share something silly I did. I'm standing in line waiting for the cashier to double check the discount on the rod combo. I've already been rung up except for that one item. I notice a person standing in line behind me. They had an "interesting" haircut. Silver hair all combed back but kinda poofy. I only noticed this person out the corner of my eye and I could swear it was an older woman with a short haircut.

I told the cashier to go ahead and ring "her" up. Upon closer examination. It wasn't a chick at all!!! Wow. Was I embarrassed for a second there. The cashier and I joked about it, and it was good to know I wasn't the only one who thought it was a girl. The moral of this story? If you're all hopped up on a fishing equipment frenzy, you might take a closer look at your surroundings!
